Boiler Girls win one, lose one on the road

The Kewanee Boiler Girls split their last two games road games. They recorded a 50-35 non-conference win over Galva on Wednesday and lost Thursday’s TRAC-East matchup against Hall, 46-41.

Galva 

The Boiler Girls jumped out to a 31-13 halftime lead over the Wildcats and extended the lead to 46-20 after three quarters of play. 

Galva outscored Kewanee 15-4 in the fourth quarter, but the brunt of the damage was done as the Boiler Girls cruised to the 50-35 win. 

Mya Dearing led Kewanee’s balanced scoring attack with 11 points. Tejhiana Amos followed with 10, Bailey VanWinkle added nine and Damaris Diaz scored eight in the win. 

Galva’s Ava Strom led all scorers with 13 points and Maddie Bates chipped in with eight.

The Boiler Girls are 3-7 on the season and Galva is 0-10. 

Hall

In TRAC-East action, the Boiler Girls played Hall even in the second half (23 points each), but the Red Devils led 23-18 in the first, which was ultimately the margin of victory for Hall. 

Three players shared scoring honors with 16 points apiece. For Kewanee, Mya Dearing had 16 and for Hall, McKenna Christiansen and Ella Sterling each scored 16 on the night. 

Tejhiana Amos added nine and Bailey VanWinkle chipped in with eight for Kewanee. 

The Boiler Girls fall to 3-8 and 1-2 TRAC-East play. Hall is 5-6 and 3-1 in the conference. 

Frosh-soph

The frosh-soph Boiler Girls beat Hall 35-25 in Thursday’s prelim. Kewanee led 17-6 at the half and 25-16 after three quarters of play. 

Nolie Charlet led the Boiler Girls with nine points. Kieryn Abernathy and Remy Hicks each scored seven.
