
The Kewanee girls basketball team picked up their fifth TRAC-East win Monday night with a 57-20 rout over the Mendota Trojans.
The Boiler Girls are now 9-15 overall and 5-3 the conference, while the struggling Trojans drop to 4-21 and 0-9 in TRAC-East play.
Kewanee blew by Mendota 32-6 in the first half. Damaris Diaz led the way with eight points and Tejhiana Amos and Bailey VanWinkle each scored five in the opening half.
By the end of the third quarter, the Boiler Girls were up 48-16. Mya Dearing tossed in five points in the frame. Hannah Tiska scored five in the final eight minutes.
Dearing scored 11 in all, Diaz followed with 10, Bailey VanWinkle scored eight and Taylor VanWinkle added seven on the night.
The Boiler Girls will host Hall Thursday for “Senior Night.” The frosh-soph game will start at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity game will follow. (This is a makeup game replacing the previously scheduled game against Oregon).
