The Kewanee girls’ track and field team had a runner-up effort among the field of 12 teams at the Paul Parker Co-Ed Invitational Friday at Riverdale High School in Port Byron.
Sherrard scored 144.33 points en route to winning the first place trophy and Kewanee was second with 106.33 points. In a tight race for third place, Riverdale (78.33 points) edged out Stark County (76) and Cambridge (74.5).

The Boiler Girls had two event winners on the night. Rachel DeRycke won the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 52.48 and Jendayia Crowe finished second in 53.58. Danielle Jo Currier won the long jump, going 15′ 2.75″.
Cambridge runners, Emily Downing and Jana VandeKemp continue to impress in the middle and long distance races. Downing topped the field in the 800 and 1600 meter races and VandeKemp had a runner-up effort in the 1600 meter run.
Stark County fared well in the shot put. The one-two punch of Chelsey Stotler (35′ 3.25″) and Lauren Orwig (34′ 0.25″) claimed first and second place in the event.
Kay’Leanna Latcham (17.53) of Galva nipped Rachel DeRycke (17.90) of Kewanee to win the 100 meter hurdles.
