
The Kewanee softball team recorded back-to-back wins over the Hall Red Devils and moved to 12-10 on the season and 6-2 in TRAC play. Hall slips 3-19 overall and 1-7 in the conference.
The Boiler Girls thumped Hall 14-4 in six innings of play on Wednesday at Northeast Park and traveled to Spring Valley on Thursday to pick up a 6-1 win over the Red Devils.
Kewanee 14, Hall 4
Hall looked to make a game of it in the early going by taking a 3-2 lead after the first inning, but Kewanee outscored the Red Devils 12-1 in the next five innings to pick up the home win.
The Kewanee bats were hot, scoring 14 runs off of 16 hits.
After spotting Hall a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning, the Boiler Girls scored two in the bottom of the inning to pull within a run at 3-2.
Addison Gerard reached first on an error, sending Hope Peed home to break the ice for Kewanee at 3-1. Cheyanne Rodgers then stole home for a score of 3-2.
The Boiler Girls put up another three runs in the second inning to pull ahead 5-3. Peed hit a single and Remy Hicks scored to tie the game at 3-all. Rodgers then hit a double, plating Hannah Tiska and Peed.
Hall scored one last run in the top of the third inning and then Kewanee played shutout defense the remaining three innings. The Boiler Girls’ offense, however, was just getting warmed up.
Kieryn Abernathy doubled a line drive to center field, scoring Kalleigh Gale for a lead of 6-4 after three innings.
The Boiler Girls then mounted a 5-run fourth inning outburst to expand the lead, 11-4. Tiska hit a single and Hicks scored on the play for a 7-4 lead. Rodgers then tripled on a line drive to left field, plating Tiska and Peed (9-4).
Lexi Dillender got in on the action and hit an RBI single, scoring Rodgers (10-4). Macee Pickering then reached on an error, sending home Dillender for a score of 11-4 after four innings of play.
Rodgers made contact again in the fifth inning. This time she hit an RBI single, scoring Tiska on the play and increasing the lead to 12-4. Dillender then hit another RBI single and Rodgers scored (13-4).
The Boiler Girls scored their final run of the game off of a Hicks RBI single. Payton Galli made it home for a final score of 14-4.
Rodgers picked up the win for Kewanee. In three innings on the mound, she struck out two and walked two, while surrendering four hits and four runs (two earned).
Kaitlyn Coutts suffered the loss for the Red Devils. She went the distance and struck out one and walked three, while giving up 16 hits and 14 runs (10 earned).

Kewanee 6, Hall 1
The Boiler Girls scored two first inning runs and took an early 2-1 lead Thursday over the Red Devils.
Hannah Tiska walked and then scored on a passed ball, giving Kewanee a 1-0 lead. Kieryn Abernathy then hit an RBI single and Hope Peed scored to extend the lead, 2-0.
Delphi hit a single for Hall and Caroline Morris scored to give the Red Devils their lone run of the game at 2-1. Kewanee tacked on two more runs in the top of the second inning for a lead of 4-1.
Remy Hicks singled on a bunt and Lyric Duytschaver scored on an error (3-1). Kalleigh then hit a single, sending Hicks home for a lead of 4-1.
The Boiler Girls rounded out the scoring in the top of the fourth inning. Tiska walked again and then scored, giving Kewanee a lead of 5-1. Abernathy reached on an error, sending Peed home for the final run of the game at 6-1.
Gale earned the win for Kewanee. In four innings of play, she struck out three, gave up four hits and one earned run.
Charlie Pellegrini took the loss for the Red Devils. In four innings she gave up six walks, six hits and six runs (three earned).
