
The Boiler Girls ran into a tough 9-2 Riverdale squad Saturday and suffered a 63-34 non-conference loss. Riverdale’s two losses were at the hands of Annawan (11-3) and Sherrard (8-3).
The Rams set the tone early and bolted to a 16-3 first quarter lead. The Boiler Girls fought back with 14 second quarter points (19-14), but dug themselves a big first quarter hole and were down 35-17 at the break.
Mya Dearing made two 3-pointers in the second quarter and had a total of eight points in the frame for Kewanee.
Riverdale’s Carrieanne Hungate scored 11 first half points and Cayleigh Hungate added seven.
The Rams outscored the Boilers Girls 28-17 in the second half as they cruised to the 63-34 win. Cayleigh Hungate added nine more points in the second half.
Kewanee’s Starjeda Jordan scored six points in the fourth quarter and had nine total points in the contest.
Cayleigh Hungate led all scorers with 16, Carrieanne Hungate had 15 and Alexis Duke chipped in with nine.
Dearing led the Boiler Girls with 11, Jordan had nine and Tejhiana Amos scored seven. Kewanee slips to 3-9 on the season.
The Boiler Girls will compete in the St. Bede Lady Bruin Classic Dec 26-29. They’ll take on Putnam County (12-3) on Dec 26 at 11:30 a.m.
