
The Kewanee softball team traveled to Biggsville Thursday and fell to the West Central Heat by a score of 6-2. The Boiler Girls are now 6-4 on the season and 2-0 in TRAC-East play, while the Heat stay unbeaten at 5-0 and 2-0 in LTC action.
The game was tied at 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning, but the Heat put up two runs each in the fifth and sixth innings to claim the 6-2 non-conference win.
West Central belted out 13 hits in the win and the Heat defense committed just one error. The Boiler Girls had six hits on the night and the defense played seven innings of error-free ball.
Kewanee 2, West Central 6
Kewanee took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning after senior Hannah Tiska hit a solo home run to center field. The home run blast was Tiska’s second of the season.
West Central went up 2-1 in the bottom of the third inning after Shelby Bowman hit a double that sent home Becca Hinshaw and Addie Seitz.
Kewanee then tied the game at 2-2 in the top of the fifth inning. Hope Peed hit a double and advanced to third on a ground out by Remy Hicks. Peed then scored off of a Kalleigh Gale single.
The tie, however, was short-lived as the Heat put up two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Seitz homered to center field and a Miley Stimpson single sent home Bowman to give West Central a 4-2 advantage.
Bowman then went yard to right field in the bottom of the sixth inning. Her 2-run homer gave the Heat a 6-2 lead that would hold up through the seventh and final inning.
Seitz picked up the win for West Central. She went the distance, striking out three and walking two batters. Seitz also surrendered six hits and two runs.
Gale absorbed the loss for Kewanee. She struck out nine (no walks), while surrendering six runs and 13 hits across six innings on the mound.
At the plate:
Peed led the Boiler Girls at the plate. She was 3-3, hit a double and scored one run. Tiska went 1-4, hit a home run and had one RBI.
Macee Pickering was 1-2 on the night. She hit a double and had an RBI. Gale went 1-3 and had one RBI. Kieryn Abernathy recorded a walk for Kewanee.
