Boilers go 1-1 in tourney

Kewanee High School’s varsity boys got a win and a loss in a tournament last week.

The Boilers downed Fulton 59-45. Kewanee was led by Chris Crowe with 23 points. Isaiah Ince and Dayvon Robinson added 10 apiece.

Kewanee then dropped a game to Riverdale by a 67-40 score.

Freshman win over Geneseo

The freshman Boilers faced off against Geneseo at home Monday night and won 37-30.

“The game consisted of a lot of turnovers back and forth, proving to be a gritty defensive battle,” Coach Dayton Ince said. “Both teams put different looks all game long, making it difficult for both sides to get comfortable offensively.

The Boiler defense picked it up in the second half, Ince said, giving up just eight points.

Leading scorers for the boilers were Mathew Southerland with 10, Dane Vandevelde with 9, and Malaki Rodriguez adding 7.

The Boilers start the season with an overall record of 7-4 and will not return to the court again until Jan. 6 against Princeton.
