The Black Hawk Community Education Center, located at 404 E. Third St., recently held a Mexican Independence Day Potluck for ESL students. The students not only got to sample different dishes but enjoyed a program. One student read their short essay about the history of Mexican Independence Day, while another student provided a short video about the Independence Day parade that she attended the previous year.

All of the students sang the Mexican National Anthem, “Himno Nacional Mexicano.” The coordinator for BHC CEC is Valerie Painter.
