The Annawan-Wethersfield Titans scored early and often on their way to a 42-0 conference win Friday at Abingdon-Avon. The Titans scored in just four plays after taking the opening kickoff, on a 47-yard touchdown run by Zeb Rashid.
The Tornadoes moved the ball on their first possession of the game, but a holding penalty and an unsuccessful fourth-down play gave the Titans the ball at their 47. This time it took the Titans five plays to score, on a 30-yard run by Rashid.
The A-W defense forced a three-and-out and the Tornadoes punted from their own 24. Ashton Potter returned the punt to the AA 13.Two plays later quarterback Dillon Horrie ran it in from the 9 to make it 21-0.
Rashid’s tackle of the AA ballcarrier on a fourth-down run gave the Titans the ball back at the A-A 46. On the Titans’ first play, Potter ran 46 yards on an end-around for the touchdown that put them up 28-0.
An interception by Koeyn DeClercq gave the Titans the ball at their own 30 with 2:05 left in the half, but they weren’t able to score. They were able to score, though, late in the third quarter. Horrie found Colin Hornback open on a pass play that would have gone for a touchdown, but Hornback slipped and was down at the 1-yard line. Two plays later, Horrie and Hornback connected on a five-yard touchdown pass.
The Titans ended the scoring after Dillon Ketelsen intercepted an A-A pass at the Tornadoes’ 14. Brody Childs, in at quarterback, ran those 14 yards for the touchdown that gave the Titans a 42-0 led and started the continuous clock.
Annawan-Wethersfield is now 4-1 on the season, their only loss by one point to undefeated Stark County. Abingdon-Avon is 0-5.
