I’m writing a book about Walter T. Bailey, following up on the great research by Steve Morrison, Dave Clarke, Joy Hernandez and others for the 2019 mural honoring him and displayed at B & B Printing.
I’ve reached a point where I think I’ve discovered almost all of his works that can be found on the Internet. So over the weekend, I made a short five-minute video based on those designs.
Last week, I was fortunate to be at Tuskegee University where Walter taught from 1905 to 1915. I was even more fortunate to have met Dr. Kwesi Daniels, current head of Tuskegee’s architecture department. He gave me a tour on Sunday afternoon of a number of the well-known Civil Rights sites in Montgomery as well as two of the churches Walter designed there. On Monday, he gave me a tour of the Tuskegee campus as we discussed Walter’s place in history. I am looking forward to incorporating what I learned from Dr. Daniels into my book.
In the interim, I hope you enjoy seeing some of what our fellow Kewaneean was able to accomplish.
