Riveters beat Mendota on Northeast Park diamond

Walker Colomer collected three hits in five at bats, as the Kewanee Riveters defeated Mendota 16-6 on Thursday at Northeast Park. Colomer singled in the third inning, the first inning and the sixth inning.

Mendota got on the board in the top of the first inning when Joe Cackley walked, Eli Kaecker was struck by a pitch and Kewanee committed an error.

The Riveters flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 5-3. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Lincoln Throneburg that drove in two.

Kewanee scored seven runs on five hits in the bottom of the third inning. Colomer singled, scoring one run, Jaxon DeReu singled, scoring one run, Reid Nichols singled, scoring two runs, Easton Blake singled, scoring one run, and Adam Yepsen doubled, scoring two runs.

Throneburg started on the hill for Kewanee. The starting pitcher gave up three hits and four runs over three innings, striking out three and walking six. 

Cackley stepped on the bump first for Mendota and allowed 10 hits and 12 runs over two and a third innings, striking out three and walking seven. Kyden Jones and Yepsen each appeared in relief for Kewanee.

The Riveters piled up 15 hits in the game. Throneburg and Yepsen each drove in three runs. DeReu, Blake, and Jones each collected multiple hits. 

Kewanee had patience at the plate, accumulating seven walks. Jones and Camden Cernovich led the team with two walks each. Quintin Weir stole two bases. The Riveters stole nine bases in the game and turned one double.

Kewanee will travel to Rockridge for their next game on Friday.
