Iris Mosley, a fourth grade student at Galva Elementary School is the winner of this year’s Farm Bureau T-shirt design contest with the theme of “From Farm Gate to Dinner Plate.”
Her teacher, Trista Dooley, said that the designs had to be done in pen, ink or crayon and show how food is produced and makes its way to the dinner table.
“Teachers must submit at least 10 student designs for the class to quality,” said Dooley. “The children were very excited about the project and had a great time participating.”

Mosley is the daughter of Madison and Dustin Franklin, and her favorite subjects are art and math.
Mosley, who already has her future career picked out, said that creating the images within the design’s circle was the best part.
“I’d like to be a teacher when I grow up,” said Mosley. “I wanted to make sure people realized how important carrots are. They really help your eyesight and that is so important.”
When she is not busy with her art and other schoolwork, she enjoys playing games with her younger brother. She also looks forward to swimming once school is finished for the year.
While the busy fourth-grader doesn’t live on a farm she knows people that do.
“I have family members that do, so I know a lot about them,” she said.
The week before the award ceremony, members of the Farm Bureau Young Leaders gave a presentation to the students on farming and the types of agriculture in Illinois. Their program encouraged Mosley and her classmates to learn about farming and how it benefits everyone.
In addition to the T-shirt, which is printed with Mosley’s design, she received an additional prize of $25. Dooley will receive $75 as the winning teacher. Each student in her class also received a T-shirt and shared their congratulations with her.
The T-shirt logo contest is co-sponsored by Gold Star FS.
