
Kewanee wrestlers Jamal Lasenby (0-1) and Alejandro Duarte (1-1) will both begin their fight through the consolation bracket Friday at the IHSA Class 1A State Wrestling tournament at State Farm Center in Champaign.
Alejandro Duarte (38-4) – 215 lbs
Alejandro won his first round match Thursday against Brandon Turner (43-8), a junior from Frankfort, by pin at 1:38 to earn a spot in the quarterfinals.
In Thursday night’s quarterfinals action, Duarte went the distance against Chris Peura (46-4), a senior from Seneca, but lost a hard-fought 6-5 decision.
The loss sent Duarte into Friday’s consolation bracket (wrestlebacks). He now awaits the winner of the match between Nelson Rider (41-8), a senior from Carmichael, and Kaleb Abney (22-7), a junior from Phoenix.
Jamal Lasenby (38-4) – 175 lbs
Jamal’s first round match Thursday was against Vincent Fiore (38-4), a senior from Mt. Zion. That match was, ultimately, decided by a score of 11-8.
The loss sent Lasenby into Friday’s wrestlebacks where he’ll face senior James Keigher (33-15), a senior from Coal City.
