The varsity baseball team started their week with a Monday trip to Hall and lost 15-0. Senior Lincoln Mason threw for three innings, allowing six earned runs on nine hits.
In relief, freshman Ace LaFollette took the mound and gave up four earned runs on one hit. Senior Ben Taylor got the lone hit for the Boiler offense.
Tuesday, Kewanee traveled to Bureau Valley and lost in three extra innings by a score of 6-5.
Junior Griffin Hicks started on the bump throwing four and two-thirds while allowing three earned runs on five hits. Junior Logan Peed was the first to come in for relief, throwing four and a third innings, allowing one unearned run on three hits while striking out seven.
The Boilers led the entire game until the Storm tied it in the bottom of the seventh.
Senior Landon Sheets led the Boiler offense through the first nine innings with two hits and three RBIs on the day. Senior Brady Schiltz came through with a huge solo shot home run in the top of the 10th to put the Boilers ahead, but some questionable calls in the bottom of the inning led to an unfortunate end to the game for the Boilermakers.
The squad ended the week hosting the Orion Chargers on Friday and lost 20-9. Landon Sheets took the mound for Kewanee, throwing two innings and allowing four earned runs on five hits while striking out two.
Schiltz threw an inning in relief, allowing two earned runs on four hits, followed by senior Colson Welgat, who threw two innings, allowing one earned run on two hits, and finally Mason, who threw an inning, allowing nine earned runs on ten hits.
The Boiler offense got off to a strong start, taking a 5-1 lead into the top of the third, but that’s where the game took a turn. Orion put up a six-run third to take the lead, but the Boilers responded and went into the fourth inning tied at seven.
That was the last time the Boilers would see the lead as Orion ran away on errors and free bases capped off by a nine-run top of the sixth.
The Boilers were led on offense by Taylor with two hits and three RBIs and Welgat with two hits and two RBIs.
The Kewanee Jv team lost 21-1 vs Hall, 14-4 vs BV, and 4-14 vs Orion this week.
Next week, both teams play the same non-conference games in flipped locations each day, and will not play the Mendota conference game. All games will start at 4:30 p.m.
