Annawan-Wethersfield wins cross country regional

Wethersfield’s boys cross country team won the Riverdale regional Saturday, leading a field of nine teams.

The Geese finished with 61 points, 10 points better than second-place Sherrard.

Other teams were Port Byron Riverdale (76), Mercer County (85), Erie-Prophetstown (110), ROWVA (140), Rock Island Alleman (147), West Carroll (185) and Orion (238).

Karson Shrum finished third in a time of 16:13.22, just behind second-place finisher Evan Knobloch of Stark County (15:54.24).

Other Wethersfield runners were Noah Feltner, seventh in 16:56.18; Cash Verstraete, 13th in 17:18.54; Logan Davis, 21st in 17:36.76; Daylon Hendrix, 24th in 17:45.41; and Miles Wied, 43rd inj 18:53.92.

All the Wethersfield runners qualified for the sectional.

Kewanee High runners Jason Rusk (34th in 18:25.28), Hunter Vancil (54th tin 19:30.07), Mitchal Thorp (69th in 21:05.00) and Jermain McNight (80th in 22:59.94) did not advance.
