On Friday, students and staff at Wethersfield Junior-Senior High School took a well-earned break from their regular schedules to enjoy the school’s second annual Health and Wellness Day.
The event, inspired by a similar program at Princeton High School and brought to Wethersfield by Principal Tyler Nichols and his wife, focused on relaxation, fun and mental health awareness.

Classrooms were transformed into activity stations, and everyone got to choose five relaxing or enjoyable activities to take part in throughout the day.
Organized by the school’s Climate and Culture Committee, the day featured 11 stations, including Resting, Reading/Games, Karaoke/Dance, Movie, Arts and Crafts, Basketball/Ping-Pong, Meditation, Baking, Video Games, Weightlifting and Outdoor Activities.
Students picked their preferred stations ahead of time and received personalized schedules when they arrived at school.
“I think it’s fun, and I like that we’re having this,” said sophomore Aiden Taylor. “This year has been much more relaxing, and I think it’s a good step back from school.”

Business teacher Tricia Lay also shared her thoughts on the event.
“I love this day, and I think it’s a good break for students to focus on their health and wellness — especially today, on World Mental Health Day,” she said.

The day ended with an early dismissal at 11:30 a.m., giving everyone a little extra time to enjoy the clear skies and head into the weekend feeling refreshed.
“I’d like to give credit to our Climate and Culture Committee, the staff, the student body, and the parents for embracing and participating in this day,” said Principal Nichols. “It means a lot.”
