Annawan-Wethersfield pitchers tossed not one, but two no-hitters Saturday in a double-header win over Galva at Howes Park in Annawan.
Due to inclement weather, Annawan-Wethersfield hadn’t played in 16 days. But the layoff didn’t slow them down a bit.
The Titans won the first game 15-0 and the nightcap 12-0 to move to 5-0-1 on the season.
In the first game, the home team had a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the third; they put up eight runs in the inning. They rounded out the scoring with a three-run fourth inning.
Meanwhile, Colin Hornback and Maddux Heitzler were combining to throw the no-hitter. Hornback struck out four hitters and walked two in his three innings of work; Heitzler struck out three in the fourth, also walking one.
Hornback also drove in three runs in the game, going 2 for 2 with two doubles. Dillon Horrie, Caleb McGill and Koeyn DeClerq also drove in two runs apiece.
In the second game, DeClercq started and threw four no-hit innings while striking out nine hitters and walking one. Horrie struck out three and walked one in his one inning on the hill.
McGill was the RBI leader in the nightcap, driving in three runs. Kellan Keane had two RBIs in the game.
