Shirley Chu, co-owner of Tres Café restaurants in Galesburg and Abingdon, announced the opening of the restaurant in the former PhatBoys BBQ location on West Third Street in a Facebook post.

“We’re thrilled to announce that we’re ready to open! Join us on Monday, January 20, as we embark on an exciting new journey,” the post said.

“We invite you to discover the delights we have in store for you. Today, we ask for your understanding and patience as we strive for excellence. We’re committed to delivering exceptional food and service, and we’re dedicated to learning from any mistakes we may make,” the post continued.

Chu concluded, “Rest assured, we’ll do our utmost to ensure your experience with us is nothing short of outstanding.”

Chu and Max Organista have operated their restaurant in Galesburg for eight years.

In an interview with The Kewanee Voice in November, Chu said, “We’re known for comfort food,” and added that anything on the menu will be available all day. That means breakfast will be served in the evening, if that’s what a diner wants; or evening meals can be ordered at 6 a.m.

“We’re very, very flexible about our menu,” she said.

She said the owners planned to hire most of the restaurant staff in Kewanee. Interviews were conducted at the restaurant last month.

Chu and Organista have always worked with local charitable organizations to serve food to people in need. Chu said they have distributed more than 50,000 free meals since opening in Galesburg, and they plan to work with the Salvation Army, the Chamber of Commerce and local veterans organizations in continuing that practice here.
