Titans split doubleheader with Princeville

The Annawan-Wethersfield Titans baseball team split a doubleheader with Princeville in Annawan Wednesday.

The Titans dropped the first game 8-6, but won the nightcap 11-1.

In game one, the starting pitcher, Pierce Childs, went three innings, allowing four runs on two hits, striking out two and walking six.

Maddux Heitzler collected three hits in four at bats. He doubled in the seventh inning, doubled in the first and singled in the sixth.

The Titans got on the board in the first inning after Jaxson Dunn singled, scoring one run.

A single by Carter Peterson gave the Princes the lead, 2-1, in the top of the third.

The Titans piled up 10 hits in the game. Aaden Verstraete collected two hits in four at bats. Cole Goodley led the Titans with two walks. The team also had a strong eye at the plate, tallying six walks for the game. The Titans turned one double play in the game.

The second game went the other way, as the Titans came out with a more consistent approach.

The Titans got on the board in the bottom of the first when Dunn singled down the left field line, Nathan Harker walked, and Devon Horrie grounded out, each scoring one run.

The Titans added to their early lead in the bottom of the second when Myer Heitzler grounded out, and Dunn doubled down the right field line, each scoring one run.

In the bottom of the third, the Titans’ lead on grew after Baylor Frankenreider walked, Maddux Heitzler grounded into a fielder’s choice, Nic Thurston walked, Myer Heitzler popped into a fielder’s choice and Dunn grounded out, each scoring one run.

The pitcher, Myer Heitzler, allowed three hits and one run over five innings, striking out six and walking two. 

Overall, the team had patience at the plate, amassing seven walks for the game. The Titans played an error-free game. Verstraete made the most plays with six.

Next, the Titans take on ROWVA Williamsfield on Thursday at home.
