Titans’ softball team loses close one to Erie-Prophetstown

The Annawan/Wethersfield Titans softball team came up short in a 7-6 loss to Erie-Prophetstown Thursday night in Erie. With the loss, the Titans fall to 1-4 on the season and the Panthers are now 1-3 overall. 

With the game tied at 6-6 after six innings of play, E-P’s Sydney Schwartz hit a single to right field, sending home Jaylynn Hamilton for the walk-off run and 7-6 win. 

Each team put up one run in the first inning. Paige Huffman singled and advanced to third on an error. Wavelynn Peart then singled and Hoffman scored for the 1-0 A/W lead. 

The Titans had a productive second inning, scoring four runs en route to a 5-2 lead. With bases loaded, Kennadi Rico hit a double to right field, sending home Brynn Harker and Elle Eastman. Elaina Manuel advanced to third on the play.

On her next at-bat, Huffman doubled on a line drive to left field, scoring Manuel and Rico and giving the Titans a 5-2 advantage heading into the third inning.

A/W put up one more run in the third inning. Sophie Nimrick doubled to left field and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Harker walked for the Titans and then advanced to second base. Lillie Bowen also walked, which loaded up the bases. 

Eastman then singled on a fielder’s choice and Nimrick absorbed the out at home plate, but Bowen advanced to third on the play. 

The next batter, Elaina Manuel, was hit by a pitch which sent home Harker for the Titans’ final score of the game.

The Panthers scored two runs in the fifth and added two more in the sixth inning to tie the score at 6-all. The final run for E-P was the walk-off run in the bottom of the of the seventh, overtaking the Titans for the 7-6 win. 

Wavelynn Peart took the loss on the mound for the Titans. She struck out two batters and walked one over six innings of play. Peart also gave up nine hits and seven runs (five earned).

Wynn Renkins was the winning pitcher for the Panthers. She fanned seven batters with no walks allowed and gave up four hits and one run in the win.

Paige Huffman was 2-4 (one double), two RBI and one run. Kennadi Rico went 1-4 (one double), two RBI and one run. Traiden Hier was 2-4 on the night and Elaina Manuel went 1-3, with one RBI and one run. 

Sophie Nimrick was 1-4 (one double) and Wavelynn Peart went 1-4 and had one RBI. Elle Eastman was 1-3 and recorded one run, while Brynn Harker scored two runs for the Titans.
