Titans post shutout win over Mendota

On Tuesday, the Annawan-Wethersfield varsity Titans defeated the Mendota varsity Trojans 9-0, as two pitchers teamed up to throw a shutout.

Nic Thurston of the Titans collected three hits with four at-bats: a triple in the fifth inning, a double in the first inning, and a single in the sixth inning.

The players brought the heat, with the Titans scoring five runs in the top of the first. Thurston doubled, scoring one run; Jaxson Dunn drew a walk, scoring one run; Devon Horrie doubled, scoring one run; and an error scored two runs.

Horrie stepped up to the mound first for the Titans. The starter gave up four hits and zero runs over six innings, striking out two and walking two. 

Neither team was able to score but the Titans came alive in the fifth inning, scoring three more runs and holding the Trojans at zero, bringing the score to an 8-0 close at the end of the fifth.

The Titans scored one last run in the top of the seventh on a solo home run to left field by Aaden Verstraete.

Dane Ross earned the win for the Titans. The reliever surrendered zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out one and walking none.

The game concluded at the bottom of the seventh, with a shutout by the Titans and a final score of 9-0. 

The Titans piled up 10 hits in the game. Maddux Heitzler stole two bases. The Titans also turned one double play in the game.
