(During Black History Month, I’m going to publish excerpts from my book, WALTER THOMAS BAILEY: STARING INTO THE YAWNING GULF OF ETERNITY, with commentary by Dr. Kwesi Daniels of Tuskegee University. The book is available from Amazon.com and for checkout from the Kewanee Public Library. You can also find more information about the book at https://www.waltertbailey.com.)

(After Walter T. Bailey taught and designed at the Tuskegee Institute for 10 years, he grew a successful private architectural practice in Memphis where he and his family lived for the next 10 years. Based on his reputation from his work produced while in Memphis, he was hired to design and supervise the construction of his most inspired and well-known work, The Knights of Pythias Temple in Chicago. Here is the chapter from my book about that project, along with more commentary from Dr. Kwesi Daniels.)
