On Thursday, Sept. 3, members of The Kewanee Voice hosted a town-wide scavenger hunt. Eight teams gathered at Windmont Park to join in on the fun with the hunt starting at 5:30 p.m.

The goal was to gather a team in a car and drive around Kewanee searching for clues. Several questions lead participants to different parts of town, and even slightly outside of town.

As part of the game, the teams had to come up with a fun team name. The team names were as follows: Grannies Get it Done, Clueless Sleuths, Blakey/Black Team, Pickleball Pals, Ham and Seek, Prairie Chicken Arts Festival Hens, Read Between the Swines and Scavenger Avengers.

In the spirit of the team’s name “Grannies Get it Done”, they certainly got it done. They were the fastest team to finish the clues, wrapping up the scavenger hunt in less than an hour. The last team to make it back was Clueless Sleuths, and even though they were last for time, they were “first in our hearts”, as organizer Paula Kapucinskas put it so delicately.

Aside from the prizes for times, there were several door prizes to win and other fun categories to win. Some of these prizes included guessing the number of pigs in a jar, best team name, best group photo, best group video and more.

A special thanks goes to the sponsors including Edward Jones, Walmart, Scooter’s, The Kewanee Park District, The Hog Festival Committee, Blooms by Heartfelt and Farm King. The sponsors brought in prizes and Scooter’s also brought refreshments.

The Kewanee Voice would like to thank all the participants of the scavenger hunt and is hoping to host an event like this in the future.
