A true crime series featuring Dave Clarke is set for June 20; a recipe round-up starts on June 13, and for those who enjoy knitting, crochet, embroidery, cross stitch or quilting, then Creativity @ the Carnegie might be for you.

Summer Reading Program – May 30 – July 17
Our Summer Reading program kicked off on Tuesday, May 30th with a fun-filled program by Mr. Steve. This year, we are trying something different; each age level is completing the same program, but different levels have different prizes and activities. In the spirit of fairness, the program has you track the time you spend reading; this will give readers of all speeds the same opportunity to reach the summer reading goals. Stop by at any of the service desks throughout the library to sign-up or download the Beanstack app and start reading now.
Show Your Pride! – June 10 at Northeast Park
We are excited to announce that the KPLD will have a booth at Northeast Park as part of Kewanee’s first annual Pride Festival. Stop by and see us. We’ll have affirmation cards, brochures highlighting representation throughout the library, a photo booth with props and more.
Adult Book Club – Monday, June 19 at 2 and 6 pm
Our next meeting date of our Adult Book Club is June 19 where we will be discussing “The Secret Keeper” by Kate Morton. As always, we will hold two meetings, one at 2 pm and another at 6 pm; you’re invited to attend whichever time works the best for you. We ask that anyone attending the evening time please enter the building through the elevator entrance located on the north side of the building on First street. Not comfortable coming in to pick up a copy? We continue to offer curbside pick-up; simply call ahead to let us know when you would like to pick up.
Photography Club for Teens – Thursday, June 15 at 3 pm
Interested in learning how to take fabulous photos? Are you a teen aged 12 or up? Join our Photography Club today! Don’t worry about having a camera, each participant will be granted the use of one of our Nikon cameras. Due to the limited number of cameras, we do ask that you register beforehand. When you register, and due to the cost of the camera, we ask that a permission slip be signed stating that you will be issued a library camera and will be held responsible for any damage, over regular wear and tear. If you have any questions, call 309-852-4505 and ask to speak to Jen in the Children’s Room.
New True Crime Series
Dave Clarke and Sean Kernan will be here on June 20 to kick off our new true crime series with their program Kewanee True Crime: Murder We Wrote. Join us at 6 pm as they regale us with tales of true crime throughout the history of Kewanee.
Recipe Round-Up
Don’t forget about Recipe Round-Up! If you’ve never been a part of Recipe Round-Up, don’t panic; it’s simple to join. All you need is to find a recipe matching our theme of the month. Cook it, and bring it, along with copies of your recipe, to share when we meet. Our next meeting will be on June 13. The theme for June will be Summer Salads. Stop by at noon with your recipe and dish and let’s all chow down.
Creativity @ the Carnegie
Do you enjoy knitting, crochet, embroidery, cross stitch or quilting? Come and join us at the Kewanee Public Library in the Community Room on the second Tuesday of each month from 4 pm to 6 pm. This is an adult group sponsored by the Friends of the Kewanee Public Library for those who would like to enjoy the comradery of others while creating their own fiber projects. The next meeting will be June 13. For more information, contact us at 852-4505.
Youth Programming
Storytime on the Lawn is back! Join us Wednesdays at 11:30 pm throughout the Summer for a great time filled with songs, activities, and, of course, reading. Please note that due to July 4 falling on a Tuesday, we will not have a story time on July 5, but we will pick back up the following week.
We are loving all of the amazing designs that everyone has been creating during Lego Club. Stop in to see everyone’s work on display or join us to make your own creation. Lego Club is held the first Saturday at 10 am. Stop in July 1 to see if you can meet the challenge.
We have lots of crafts available throughout the summer to keep everyone busy. The younger crowd can stop in June 14 to the 16 from 2 pm to 6 pm or June 17 from 9 am to 1 pm to make their own Paper Popsicles. During that time, and through June 24, we will have a Grab and Go craft for everyone; stop in to grab a kit and make your own Plastic Bottle Sea Turtles. We will also have an in-house program for the slightly older crowd. Stop by June 21 through June 23 from 2 pm to 6 pm or June 24 from 9 am to 1 pm to make your own lava lamp.
Christy DeSmit of the Kewanee Yoga Center will be joining us on June 29 at 2 pm to lead My Grown-Up and Me Yoga. Don’t forget your yoga mat! Beginners are welcome. We are beyond excited to announce that Rich Rubietta will be here on Saturday, June 24 at 10 am to put on his bilingual family music show.
