Becky Simon, the League of Women Voters of Illinois state president, will attend the Feb. 28 meeting of the League of Women Voters of the Kewanee area.

Simon has been visiting leagues throughout the state in the past year. This meeting, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Country Morning Coffee in Kewanee, is open to the public.

Sandwiches and refreshments will be provided. Those attending may bring food and drinks and buy from Country Morning Coffee until 4:45 p.m., when the business will close,

There will be a social time and Simon will speak in the first half of the meeting.

There will also be a discussion of program planning for the LWVUS national convention which is in June. Local Leagues are asked to give input on positions, studies, and priorities to be voted on at this convention.

Those who attend the Feb. 28 meeting “will find out a lot of information about the LWV,” according to local League President Carla Hillman.

LWVUS Program is the education and advocacy platform that the League membership adopts at each biennial LWV National Convention. The goal of the LWVUS Program Planning process is to achieve collective agreement around how the League will move its mission forward for the next two years. Current LWVUS positions can be found in Impact on Issues.

The League of Women Voters, a non-partisan political organization, encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government, and works to increase the understanding of major public policy issues and to influence public policy through education and advocacy.
