Illinois State Rep. Travis Weaver (R-Edwards) is partnering with the Kewanee Police Department to host a “Prescription Drug Take Back” event on Saturday, Oct. 28, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event will coincide with DEA “National Drug Take Back Day.” Local residents are encouraged to safely dispose of unused, unwanted, or expired prescription drugs. Medications should be placed in sealed plastic bags.
Accepted medications include tablets, capsules, and other solid forms of prescription drugs. Also accepted are patches, vaping devices, and cartridges (with lithium batteries removed).
Restricted items include liquids (including intravenous solutions), syringes and needles.
“It is no secret that we have a drug pandemic across the state and country,” Rep. Weaver said. “For many folks, drug abuse includes stealing old prescription drugs from friends or family who no longer need them. I’m excited to join the Kewanee Police Department in their effort to get old prescription drugs out of medicine cabinets to ensure they don’t unintentionally fall into the wrong hands. I applaud the great work being done by the Kewanee Police Department and am honored to stand with them in this event.”
Rep. Travis Weaver serves Illinois House District 93. More information about the drug take back event can be obtained by phoning Rep. Weaver’s Pekin office at (309) 204-6514 or by visiting his website at repweaver.com.
