Dear Editor,
I am an animal lover, and in particular, a big dog lover. I own two small dogs which I adore and take every step to keep them safe, healthy and happy. To that end, is exactly what prompted this letter to the editor.
Dog lovers in this small town of ours waited years for a dog park to become a reality. It finally came to fruition this past summer with a generous gift to the park district by Mrs. Kettridge, and I must say, it was a beautiful facility located in Chautauqua Park.
If you’re reading this, you have to notice my use of the word “was.” My husband and I visited the dog park last week with our two small dogs. We absolutely could not believe how dog lovers have destroyed their own dog park. As a result, we abruptly left. For humans to walk around, it’s like walking through a minefield. For dogs, it is an extreme health risk.
My question to all you dog lovers out there. . .Why can’t you respect other dog lovers, their pets and yourself by picking up your dog’s POOP? It truly takes three seconds to clean it up. For your convenience the bags and trash receptacles are strategically placed around and in the fenced area. Do you possibly expect city and park employees or other pet owners to pick up after your pet? If you do, it is just WRONG!
We have been given a gift to enjoy. Please, do your part to take care of it.
