Prairie Players Civic Theatre is holding auditions for The Cottage, a fast-paced, delightfully outrageous comedy written by Sandy Rustin and directed by Jill Bradford.
The Cottage takes place in the English countryside in 1923. The play begins with a secret romantic rendezvous and quickly spirals into a hilarious web of infidelity, unexpected guests, shifting alliances and revelations. It is a romantic farce willed with sharp dialogue, surprising twists and plenty of physical comedy.
Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. Some characters require a British-sounding accent, so auditioners should be prepared to give one a try or be willing to play around with it. Other accents may come into play as well to test out capabilities. A prepared audition is not required, but a short monologue under one minute is welcome.
Auditions will take place Sunday, Sept. 27 from 2-4 p.m. and Monday, Sept. 28 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Prairie Players Civic Theatre at 160 S. Seminary St. in Galesburg. Casting is looking for three women and three men, ranging from 20-60 years old. Performances will be held Nov. 13-15 and 20-22 at the theatre.
