The Kewanee Police Department wrote more than 150 traffic tickets and made four arrests over the Labor Day weekend.
Police Chief Stephen Kijanowski said Tuesday that the arrests and tickets were part of a Labor Day safety campaign conducted from Aug. 14 through Sept. 8.
Kijanowski said there were two arrests for driving under the influence and 84 seat belt citations. Other citations and arrests included two car seat violations, 43 speeding citations, two distracted-driving citations, three tickets for driving while license is revoked or suspended, two criminal arrests and 20 other traffic enforcement-related citations
Kewanee police collaborated with other law enforcement agencies and highway safety partners across the state for the Illinois Labor Day “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI” campaigns.
This effort was part of the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” initiatives, funded by federal highway safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation.
