The Wethersfield High School gym was busy on Thursday night as it was Wethersfield’s pink night against the Knoxville Blue Bullets.

In the front hallways, there were tables lined with raffle baskets filled with various goodies. OSF representatives were also in attendance, raising awareness for breast cancer.

The winners of the baskets were announced right before the varsity game started.

The fans covered the stands in pink, showing their support for the teams and breast cancer awareness.

Senior Abigail Cabada was recognized for completing 1,200 career assists, and Coach Tonya Vincent was recognized for obtaining 500 career wins–big accomplishments for the team.

Now on to the game:

The Geese started great in the first set. A series of serves gave them a 7-2 lead over the Bullets. The Geese dominated at the net, also contributing to their lead.

The first set was challenging for both teams. The Bullets were on their toes, ready for whatever the Geese were going to throw at them.

The Geese responded with blocks that shut down the Knoxville offense.

The Bullets were determined to shorten the lead. They fought hard, shortening the lead by a few points. The Geese only came back stronger.

The Bullets called their first time out, hoping to get their heads together to come back. The Geese responded with good hits, allowing them to pull away from the Bullets.

The Geese ended up winning the first set 25-16.

To start the second set, the Geese were dominating at the net once again. The Geese showcased teamwork that helped them work together on the court. They gained a lead of 10-3 over the Bullets.

Kills by Camryn and Kyleigh Anderson contributed to the score. The girls on the floor worked together to achieve great rallies with Knoxville. The gym was on fire as they showcased their skills.

Sophomore Jordan Nelson goes up for a block.

Knoxville made mistakes that did not help them in the long run. They called a time-out with the score being 17-5 Geese. If they wanted to make a change in that score, they would have to come out ready to play.

Knoxville did manage to gain a few points on the Geese, but it wouldn’t help in the end. The Geese won the second set 25-12.

Wethersfield’s overall record is now 26-5. Their conference record is 9-0.

The Geese will be back in the gym on Monday for Senior Night against Stark County. Freshmen will start at 5 p.m., JV at 6 p.m., and varsity at 7 p.m.
