Pet of the week: Meet Findley, the resident guardian

By The Kewanee Voice    March 31, 2026
Findley is waiting for the right owner who will appreciate his concern for your welfare.

If you’ve visited the Kewanee Humane Society recently, chances are you’ve already met Findley—a 6‑year‑old gray tabby with a calm, easygoing presence that makes him one of the most recognizable cats in the building.

Findley arrived in August after his family was forced to surrender him due to a child’s allergies. With his laid‑back temperament, he quickly became a natural fit for our general population room, where he roams freely. He’s known for making his rounds, checking in on the other cats as if he’s supervising the daily routine. When he’s off duty, you’ll usually find him stretched out on the sun porch, enjoying a well‑earned nap in a warm patch of light.

This big, friendly boy—tipping the scales at 14.5 pounds—gets along well with kids and other cats, and he’s equally comfortable around dogs of all sizes. Visitors often comment on how welcoming he is. He happily accepts ear scratches and head rubs, and he’ll even hop up to a high perch to make sure you can reach all his favorite “sweet spots.” Offer him canned food or a few snacks, and you’ll have a loyal companion for life.

Because Findley is declawed, he will need to remain strictly indoors. He is fully vetted, including rabies vaccination, neutering, microchipping, flea treatment and deworming.

If you’d like to meet this sweet, steady, charismatic cat, stop by the shelter during visiting hours or call 309‑852‑0040.

Findley will be ready to greet you with the same good‑natured charm he shows everyone. His adoption fee is $50.
