The week’s Pet of the Week is Stu, an adorable black-and-white, crinkle-eared cat who is looking for a forever home.

The 18-month-old neutered male first arrived at the county pound in mid-June after police found him wandering in a cornfield near Walmart. When he was brought in, staff mistakenly believed he was female and gave him the name Susan. It did not take long for them to discover otherwise, and the friendly feline was promptly renamed Stu.

While the classic song “A Boy Named Sue” may have inspired a few laughs, shelter staff agreed the affectionate cat deserved a name that fit him a little better.

When Stu arrived, he weighed about eight pounds. Since transferring to the shelter, he has gained weight steadily and now tips the scales at a healthy 11 pounds.

One thing that has never been lacking is Stu’s affection. Shelter staff describe him as a certified cuddler who loves being held and will happily snuggle for as long as someone is willing to sit with him.

Stu is also not shy about making his needs known. If something is bothering him or he wants attention, he is quick to speak up with a steady stream of meows until the situation is resolved.

When it comes to other cats, Stu tends to take a laid-back approach. He generally ignores the activities of his feline roommates and prefers to do his own thing. His favorite pastimes include playing with toys, lounging on the sun porch and exploring the shelter after enjoying a breakfast of canned food. Once his morning adventures are complete, a long nap is usually next on the agenda.

Stu is fully vetted and received his rabies vaccination in August. He was already neutered when he arrived at the shelter and has since been flea treated, dewormed and vaccinated with a series of FVRCP shots.

For anyone looking for a companion to share cozy winter days and plenty of cuddles, Stu may be the perfect match. His unique crinkled ears and affectionate personality make him one of a kind.

To meet Stu or learn more about adoption, call the shelter at 309-852-0040 or stop by during visiting hours. His adoption fee is $60.
