Kewanee saw the addition of a new restaurant in December. With little fanfare, Wang’s Asian Cuisine and Gift Shop opened its doors for business. The restaurant-gift shop is located in the space recently vacated by the owners of the Great Wall at 544 Tenney St., suite 4.

Ever since coming to the United States from Asia in the early 1980s, Sam Wang, the owner of the restaurant, has enjoyed traveling throughout the states and bringing a bit of home with him along the way.

Wang most recently owned Szechuan Restaurant and Gift Shop in South Carolina but wanted to travel yet again and try some place new.

When coming across a recently empty lot listing in Kewanee, and with the former owners having no plans of reopening the restaurant there, Wang jumped at the opportunity. Within just a couple weeks, he moved to Kewanee and got right to work on fixing up and opening his Asian Cuisine.

“There was a lot to be done.” Wang said. “I’m still working on improvements, and I will always try my best to improve for the people.”

Wang runs the restaurant with his partner, Crystal Hunng. Together, they’re testing the local waters with both a lunch and dinner menu, and even a buffet. Included is Wang’s signature chicken wings, with his own styling of Szechuan sauces.

They also offer takeout as well as the buffet. There is no delivery right now, but Wang hopes to implement it in the near future.

Prices range from lunch at $9 and dinner at $10.95, with lower prices for children under 7. Wang’s Asian Cuisine is open seven days a week from 11 am to 9:30 pm.
