The fifth annual Neponset Park Improvement Golf Outing fundraiser will be held on Saturday, Sept. 20, at Hidden Lake Country Club, rural Sheffield. “Now is the time to get a foursome together to enjoy a round of golf on a beautiful course while supporting improvements in the Neponset community,” said Martin Golby of the Neponset Park Improvement Committee.

The tournament will begin at 8 a.m. at Hidden Lake with a shotgun start. The cost is $250 per four-person team ($62.5 per person), which covers golf fees, a cart and lunch, as well as four mulligans and two drive-extending throws. The tournament will follow a preferred-ball format.

Teams may pre-register by contacting Al Corwin at (815) 303-0200, or they may register the morning of the tournament.

Additionally, there will also be 50/50 raffles, several fun activities on a few holes, and door prizes.

If any individual or business is interested in sponsoring a hole for $50 per hole, or if you have any questions about the tournament, contact Corwin at the number listed above, or Mandy Donovan at (309) 502-9050.

Lunch of a sandwich, chips and water is provided for team members at Hidden Lake immediately after the tournament.

The Neponset Park Improvement Committee formed in 2019 to begin planning and fundraising for improvements to Scott Park, including a veterans’ memorial, a park pavilion for picnic tables and outdoor restroom facilities, as well as other park projects.

Members of the committee include Dave Mueller, Jon Pickering, Mandy Donovan, Gail Pickering, Al Corwin and Marty Golby.

The veterans memorial was completed in May, 2021, and it was dedicated on Memorial Day of 2021.

Fundraising is ongoing for the park pavilion and restrooms, both to be located south of the Neponset Committee Building. The community building and the adjacent Scott Park are popular, especially in the summer months when many families are hosting their family gatherings and reunions.

Donations for the improvement project can be made by sending a check to the Neponset Park Improvement Committee at P.O. Box 309, Neponset, IL 61345

Donations may also be dropped off to Community State Bank in Neponset, or funds may be transferred from an individual’s account to the Neponset Park Improvement account at CSB.

The Neponset Park Improvement Committee is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and donations are tax deductible.
