Dear Editor,
I think I need to clarify my view as expressed in my recent letter, “Cool Your Jets.” I’ve heard from several people who agreed or disagreed with me, and I’m glad to say all presented their views sensibly and civilly–in other words, with cooled jets.
In no way do I discourage sensible, civil opposition to “Nazis, homophobes, misogynists, bigots, and/or racists,” or any other evils one perceives. Far from it. But I consider humans to be mysteries, not easily boxable into neat little packages of good or bad. So…before speaking in public, or taking pen in hand, maybe forget derogatory name-calling? Filth language or emojis? Cruel wishes?
Now I’ll take my own advice: I’ll shut up! Cool my jets!
Your friend,
