Thursday, Feb. 19, was an exciting day for the Lady Geese of Wethersfield, who won a regional championship against Pecatonica at Fulton.

With fans buzzing with anticipation, the game kicked off with the tip and possession going to Pecatonica.

Defense from both teams started off strong and intense. Camryn Anderson put the first points on the board with a splash from the three-point line.

The Geese kept up the motivation to win and ended the first quarter with the score of 9-12, with Pecatonica in the lead by three. The Lady Geese did not lose their drive, and tied the score up right before halftime, 22-22.

The third quarter action slowed on both sides of the court, with the only three-pointer made by Wethersfield. But picking up was the defense, which intensified for both teams.

The crowd was fired up for their teams, and it seemed like a fair chance to win for either team.

But the Lady Geese’s precision and drive could not have come at a better time and at the start the fourth quarter, the Geese shut down advances from Pecatonica. The Lady Geese executed a strong offense and plays.

Pecatonica did not give up, maintaining the same energy and momentum as their opponents.

The Geese pushed until the last whistle and secured a hard-fought victory with the score 36-32.

It was their teamwork and dedication got the team to this point.

“Winning regionals felt amazing and was a huge accomplishment, especially this season being my last. We came prepared to play hard, and we played really well as a team,” said senior captain Camryn Anderson.
