On Tuesday night, the WHS varsity volleyball team brought electricity to the gym with a two-set win over Brimfield High School.

The Lady Geese started the game dominating Brimfield with an eight-point lead, due to great serves and defense. Brimfield struggled to break the streak, calling a timeout to try and stop the Geese.

The Lady Geese only got stronger from there.

Serves from sisters Camryn and Kyleigh Anderson helped the Geese in the long run, creating a big gap in the score. Brimfield showed great moments throughout the set, but ultimately it wasn’t enough to top the Lady Geese. The set ended with a score of 25-8.

After the teams huddled up following the first set, Brimfield started much stronger against the Lady Geese. The teams had a tough battle, with Wethersfield only keeping a short lead over Brimfield. Junior Tinsley Newman and sophomore Jordan Nelson had great work at the net, gaining points for the Lady Geese.

Towards the end of the set, the Geese started to make mistakes that shortened the lead once again. Brimfield stayed strong, trying to pull out their best skills against the Lady Geese. It wasn’t enough in the end, the score being 25-19.

Wethersfield’s season record now sits at 11-1.

The night’s student section was filled with cheering and positive encouragement. The theme was “USA,” with everyone dressed in their best red, white and blue gear.

The Lady Geese will return tonight for their third home game of the week against West Central. JV starts at 6 p.m. and Varsity at 7 p.m.
