
The Wethersfield Lady Geese won a 55-49 overtime thriller Saturday against Princeville to claim third place honors in the LTC tournament at Biggsville.
Wethersfield (18-3, 5-1) had a third quarter lead of 35-28, but Princeville (13-9, 4-1) fought back and outscored the Lady Geese 16-9 to force the game into overtime at 44-all.
Wethersfield scored 11 points and held Princeville to just five in the extra stanza to pull out the 55-49 win. Senior standout Kennady Anderson made 6 of 7 free throws in overtime and scored eight of the final 11 points for the Geese.
Wethersfield took a 12-9 lead and they maintained a 22-18 lead at the half. The threes were falling early as Lana Scott, Paige Huffman and Cora Hodge each made one trey in the first quarter.
Anderson and Lajaya Angel scored seven and six, respectively in the first half and Strietmatter led Princeville with six at the break.
Angel added 11 more in the second half, while Paisley Schock scored 10 for the Princes. Sahara Strietmatter had four in the fourth quarter and five in overtime to add to her 15-point total.
When the dust settled, Angel topped all scorers with 19 points and Anderson added 18 in the win.
Following Strietmatter’s 15 points, Schock had 13 and Jameson McGinn scored 11 for Princeville.
