KEWANEE – The Knights of Columbus is inviting the public to come together to benefit Abilities Plus. A fundraiser will take place on Friday, Sept. 11 and feature a sponsored dinner and a night of prizes.
Fifty-three years ago, the Knights of Columbus launched a Tootsie Roll drive to raise money for the clients of the Pilot House. Members of the organization would hand out candy in exchange for donations to help support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Since then, Santa Maria Council #734 has made efforts to keep the fundraiser alive.
Since the Tootsie Roll drive has been running for so long, the organization has lost participants over the years and can no longer hand out candy for the cause. Still committed to supporting Abilities Plus, the Knights of Columbus found a new way to help by partnering with Tres Cafe, which will host a dinner and fundraiser at its Kewanee location.
Tres Cafe will be offering dinner from 4-8 p.m. For $10, guests can have a chicken and noodles dinner, or they can order off the menu for the price listed per item. Raffle tickets will also be available at $5 per ticket or $20 for five tickets. All proceeds and tips from the sponsored dinner and proceeds from the raffle tickets will be donated to Abilities Plus.
During the evening, there will be a silent auction and 50/50 raffle, where a wide assortment of prizes can be won and bid on. Items for bid include two hand loomed throw rugs donated by Ronelle Spiegel, a chocolate and wine basket donated by Altar and Rosary Society, a cutting board donated by Greg Ahlgren, a pie per month for a year donated by Mary Ebert, pumpkin spice themed basket donated by Union Federal, meat bundle donated by Save-A-Lot, gnome wood carving donated by Tim Bryner, Kewanee High School yard sign donated by Jim Gallaway, bath and body basket with handmade Afghan donated by Darwin and Chris Bral, Country Morning Coffee basket with homemade jelly donated by Darwin and Chris Bral, electric snow scene donated by OSF Saint Luke’s, OSF Saint Luke’s alcove gift basket and kids basket with coloring books and coloring supplies donated by OSF Saint Luke’s and lastly four seasons wreaths (wreath for each season) donated by Hillside Florist’s Barb Salisbury and Angie Lang.
