Kewanee High School’s soccer team won its first game in the War on 34 tournament.

The Boilers scored three goals in a tournament-opening win over Yorkville Christian.

“Kewanee dominated the game from beginning to end,” Coach Jesus Bermudez said. “With a good start, the Boilermakers will play against Westminster on the semifinal.”

Dontel Wommack scored his first goal. With an assist from Alex Barron, Dontel kicked to goal on one touch, leaving the goalie without a chance.

Alex Barron scored the second goal from an assist by Michael Bermudez, a kick outside the box right on the bottom corner. Again, the goalie had no chance.

Isidro Martinez scored the third goal, from the pass of Alex Barron. “Isidro controlled the ball outside the box with a beautiful curve on the bottom corner,” Bermudez said.

Barron jad two assists and Bermudez had one.

The Boilers took 25 shots in the game, and their goalie, Gustavo Bermudez, had two saves.
