KHS golfers hit the links Saturday

Kewanee High School’s boy and girl golfers competed over the weekend.

Kewanee placed seventh out of eight teams at the 18-hole Princeton Invitational with a team score of 389.

Reid Nichols shot 89 to lead the Boilers. Other scores were Owen Laue 102, Jack Anderson 112, Lincoln Throneburg 102, Easton Blake 109 and James McGarvey 98.

“Chapel Hill is a tough course that requires a lot of course management,” KHS Coach Brett VanDeWostine said. “Our course management was not the greatest on Saturday but that is okay, as we were focusing on seeing the course and preparing for the Conference Championship which is being held at Chapel Hill. While the boys were in Chapel Hill, Sophie Hamilton was playing in the Lady Bombers invite.

“Sophie had a great day on the course as she shot a 110 which is her best 18-hole score of the year,” the coach said. “She has been improving each day and I am looking forward to seeing how much more she grows as a golfer.”
