KHS drops a close one to St. Bede

The Kewanee volleyball team battled St. Bede in a 3-set match Tuesday night but came up short, losing (24-26, 25-16, 22-25). 

The Boiler Girls are now 5-8 on the season and 1-2 in TRAC play. St. Bede is now 4-6-1 and 0-2-1.  

Leading the attack at the net were Emma Ellenberger and Tejhiana Amos with 10 and 7 kills, respectively. Setters Avery Yepsen and Macee Pickering dished out 13 and 10 assists. 

Taylor VanWinkle reeled off 9 service points (1 ace), Jillian Bennison had 6 (1 ace), Aaliyah Duarte 5 (3 aces) and Ellenberger had 4 (1 ace). Yepsen added 3 service points, 2 of which were aces. 

Bennison led the defensive effort with 8 digs, Duarte had 7 (and 3 blocks), Marlee Bates added 5 digs and Pickering chipped in with 3. 

The Kewanee sophomores won their match (25-17, 25-18) and the freshmen squad won as well (25-15, 25-14). 

The Boilers Girls travel to Hall tonight to take on the Red Devils (4-7-1).
