Led by two goals from Cristian Cazares, Kewanee High School’s soccer team scored a 4-1 win over Peoria High School Wednesday.
Cazares, who is just 12 goals away from tying the school record for most goals in his career, got his first goal with a right-foot kick just one minute into the game. His second goal came when he outraced several defenders to score on a left-foot kick at the 36-minute mark of the first half.
Cazares now has 76 career goals. The record holder is Santos Contreras with 88.
“Another good soccer day for the Boilermakers, playing against Peoria,” said Coach Jose Bermudez. “Kewanee played smart, against a Peoria team that had a lot of talent, but only a few easy shots to our goalie,” Bermudez said.
The thiird goal came from Michael Bermudez, in a low throw in pass from James Roginski. Without letting the ball bounce, Bermudez kicked the ball softly with his left foot. The fourth goal came almost at the last minute when Isidro Martinez kicked the ball from outside the goalie box far from the reach of Peoria’s goalie.
Roginski had two assists, while Tyson Currie and Antonio Moran had an assist apiece.
The Boilers took 12 shots, and Dillon Price recorded three saves.
