On Monday, the Boilers traveled to Macomb and were victorious 14-3. Senior Colson Welgat started on the mound for Kewanee and threw five and two-thirds innings, allowing three hits for one earned run while striking out 10 batters.
Offensively, the Boilers fired on all cylinders, combining for 11 hits, with junior Ben Taylor, junior Logan Peed, and freshman Ace LaFollette getting two hits. Peed took the mound in relief and threw one and a third, allowing one run on one hit while striking out two.
Kewanee hosted the Monmouth Roseville Titans on Friday and won 6-1. Senior Landon Sheets took the bump for the Boilers and threw a complete seven innings, allowing one run on four hits with one walk and nine strikeouts.
Offensively, the team got off to a hot start, scoring six runs through the first three innings. The Boilers were led by Sheets on offense, who had two hits and a sac fly on three at bats.
The JV squad only played one game this week: They hosted Macomb and fell short of victory.
On Monday, Apr. 7, the varsity team will travel to Erie-Prophetstown, and the JV will play the Panthers JV at home to kick off TRAC conference play.
The next day, the varsity squad will travel to Knoxville, and the JV team will not be in action, as their game was canceled.
On Thursday, both teams will play their second legs against Erie-Prophetstown in flipped locations: varsity at home, JV away.
To end the week, on Friday, the varsity squad will travel to Riverdale, and the junior varsity team will host Riverdale’s junior varsity players.
All of next week’s games will start at 4:30 p.m.
