In spite of the chilly weather Saturday, families, kids and residents turned out to help staff at the Kewanee Public Library celebrate the library’s 150 years of service to the community.

The block party event featured a book giveaway of Kewanee historian Dean Karau’s book on Walter Thomas Bailey, crafts such as DIY seed bombs and rock painting. Facepainting as well as live music and free cotton candy and snow cones were offered to guests.

The block party also kicked off the library’s summer reading program and attendees were invited to sign up to start winning prizes.
This year’s theme is “Level Up at Your Library!” and will run from May 27 through July 7.
