A Kewanee man was arrested Thursday in connection with an infant sustaining “severe injuries and trauma,” Kewanee police reported Friday.

Armando Rosas, 30, was arrested on a Henry County warrant for two counts of aggravated battery (Class X felonies) and one count of endangering the life or health of a child, a Class A misdemeanor. He was taken to the Henry County Jail.

Also arrested was Alexis Echelberger, 24, of Kewanee, on a misdemeanor charge of endangering the life of health of child. She was released with a notice to appear in court.

Police reported that on last Dec. 22, police received a report from the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) regarding a newborn infant who had sustained severe injuries and trauma.

Detectives initiated an investigation into the incident. “During the investigation, the explanation provided by the father did not match the severity of the infant’s injuries,” police reported.

“Detectives reviewed medical records and DCFS reports, conducted multiple interviews, and executed several search warrants as part of the investigation,” the report said.

On Wednesday, detectives presented their findings to the Henry County State’s Attorney’s office, which filed formal charges and issued an arrest warrant for Rosas, the child’s father.
