Kewanee FFA had seven members advance to the District 1 Proficiency Interview competition held at Geneseo High School on Wednesday, March 6.
These seven members were first selected to represent the Kewanee Chapter, then went on to win the Section 3 event to become the district qualifiers. Students interviewed with a panel of judges to detail their Supervised Agricultural Experiences (SAE). Judges score the students’ record books and interviews against a rubric. Areas reviewed in the rubric include Industry Knowledge, Management/Problem Solving, Safety Procedures, Skill Development, Record Book Accuracy and overall Interview Impression.
Kewanee has two District 1 winners, winning their area and advancing to compete at state on Saturday, March 22 in Mt Zion:
Kashen Ellerbrock – Sheep Production
Kalleigh Gale – Food Service Entrepreneurship
FFA members who represented the KHS Chapter:
Payton Ouart – Diversified Agriculture Production
Emmalee Kilstrom – Agricultural Processing
Kelsey Scott – Agriculture Education
Mikayla Ouart – Equine Production Placement
Cheyenne Orwig – Wildlife Production and Management
“Thank you for your continued support and guidance as we grow a strong agricultural program at KHS. These students know they represent more than themselves every time they zip up that blue jacket and they are proud to have Kewanee written across their backs,” said Kindra Callahan, KHS ag instructor.
