A Kewanee man charged in the 2024 murder of Jimmy Hollins II could finally go on trial.

On Monday, Judge Terry Patton set the trial for early October.
Jose Valentin, 45, has been in the Henry County Jail since April of 2024.
Hollins was found with a gunshot wound to his neck, lying in the street on Houle Avenue on Sunday, March 24. He was later pronounced dead at the scene. Valentin was arrested several days later and charged with his murder.
Witnesses reported seeing a silver Yukon driving by and later reported seeing Hollins’s body lying in the roadway, covered in blood.

At the hearing on Monday, defense attorney Lance Camp said they needed time to go through subpoenaed files and requested a motion to continue, which was granted.
Valentin will be facing his final pre-trial hearing on Sept. 28 and Judge Patton ultimately decided on a firm jury trial date early in October.
