Students from Irving’s third grade class spent several days designing, crafting and creating laminated bookmarks to present to residents at Kewanee Care Home and surrounding nursing homes.

The project was in preparation for World Kindness Day, celebrated on Monday, Nov. 13. The day was first introduced in 1998 by the World Kindness Movement. The holiday is devoted to promoting kindness throughout the world.

On World Kindness Day, people are encouraged to perform acts of kindness towards others, such as donating to charity, volunteering or simply performing a kind act for another.

In addition to the bookmarks, students handed out candy bars to the nursing home residents. But the third graders at Irving aren’t finished with their acts of kindness. It’s their hope to continue spreading kindness throughout their community.
