BISHOP HILL, Illinois—Crossroads Cultural Connections will present an evening of melodic, timeless indie rock with Bird Streets on Wednesday, April 1 at Bishop Hill Creative Commons.

Described by The Deli as “rock music with mainstream potential that sounds timeless and honest,” Bird Streets is the musical project of acclaimed singer-songwriter John Brodeur. After years as a solo artist, Brodeur reimagined his work under the Bird Streets name, blending classic power-pop sensibilities with modern indie rock.

His self-titled 2018 debut, produced by Jason Falkner, earned widespread praise, with PopMatters calling it a “rock solid power-pop gem,” and NPR Music naming Bird Streets a Slingshot Artist alongside emerging artists like Phoebe Bridgers and The Beths.

Bird Streets’ follow-up album, Lagoon, further expanded Brodeur’s collaborative vision. Produced by Pat Sansone (Wilco) and Michael Lockwood (Fiona Apple), the album features contributions from an impressive lineup of musicians including Aimee Mann, Ed Harcourt, and Jody Stephens of Big Star. The result is a collection of songs that are both intimate and expansive—lush, melodic, and emotionally resonant. Critics have described the album as “sublime,” “luxurious and literate” and “an emotional tour de force.”

A native of upstate New York, Brodeur has built a reputation as a compelling live performer, touring with artists such as Juliana Hatfield, They Might Be Giants and Fountains of Wayne and appearing at major festivals including SXSW and the 30A Songwriters Festival.

Presented by Crossroads Cultural Connections, this performance continues the organization’s mission of bringing exceptional live music and cultural experiences to rural communities.

The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with an optional potluck dinner, offering guests a chance to gather and share a meal before the performance. Attendees are welcome to bring a dish to share if they wish to participate. The concert will begin at 7 p.m.

The event is open to all ages, with a suggested donation of $20–$30, 100% of which goes directly to the performers, supporting artists and sustaining live music.
